Slippery Slope

What's next, same-sex marriage?

A woman who fell in love with a snake has reportedly married the reptile at a traditional Hindu wedding celebrated by 2,000 guests in India's Orissa state.

Bimbala Das wore a silk saree for the ceremony Wednesday at Atala village near the Orissa state capital Bhubaneswar.

Priests chanted mantras to seal the union, but the snake failed to come out of a nearby ant hill where it lives, the Press Trust of India (PTI) said.

A brass replica snake stood in for the hesitant groom.

"Though snakes cannot speak nor understand, we communicate in a peculiar way," Das, 30, told the agency.

"Whenever I put milk near the ant hill where the cobra lives, it always comes out to drink.

"I always get to see it every time I go near the ant hill. It has never harmed me," she added. ...

Das has moved into a hut built close to the ant hill since the wedding.

Earlier this year, a tribal girl was married off to a dog on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

By the way, homosexuality is still technically illegal in India.

  1. Hey Mr. Harbridge

This is a pretty interesting.. uhh.. article... I was thinking about it during my shower... haha.. I think loving a pet is acceptable but marrying it is just... weird, cause I see a animals as a "lesser" being cept dogs... and cats.. and pandas.. but you still shouldn't marry them. Like, you can't communicate with each other and maybe during a famine, you might decide to even eat them.. ewww... just like a spider eating its mate or something like that... yuck.

  2. Well. Can I say Mr. Neufeld's Summit Ministries course on morals is in order? Eugh! That's just wrong. But I can't pinpoint what's wrong. Is it the snake? The woman? Their bond? Or perhaps the love? Or maybe the reporter? Great! Now I get to go to bed grossed out and confused. Thanks! On another note, your blog brings to mind the Shakespearean quote of "Let go of the wheel when it rolls down a hill". But it doesn't work here because moral decline affects everyone. It doesn't matter whether or not we let go or hold on because it seems like the entire world is put at a slant and everyone goes down regardless. Is that an optimistic view or what? So what are Christians to do? Hold on for dear life to the "wheel" and hope friction does its work? Or we can all just hug the floor for stability... the result would be the same anyways. Good night!

  3. I am officially grossed out... For life... I mean like Oscar I can understand someone 'loving' their pet, but that is a bit extreme. Don't you think?

And also on the note that homosexuality is illegal there, but they'll let a woman marry a snake.

    The middle east is nuts.

  4. Um.. this is Conrad by the way. I think this is disgusting. Same sex marriage is not aloud but marrying animals? How do you reproduce? Embryos mutation? Ehh anyways this totally ruins God's plan for us. It even says in the bible you are not to do anything sexual with animals. I dont remember where it was but... YEAH.
I think it's disgusting.. do i get extra marks now? :DD
